    Émilie Notéris’s analysis focuses on works of art created by women in the 20th and 21st centuries, and these women’s need to develop their own genealogy as official art history is still too preoccupied with fathers and their offspring to care about mothers. Within a profusion of rhizomatic histories, these biological or elective genealogies suggest other tools and other reasons to create. With this the author realises that her feminist analysis remains incomplete unless she takes into consideration Black women artists, their specific history and the relationships they maintain via various diasporas. This book, simultaneously literary and analytical, aesthetic and political, is also a reflection on the need for research on art today: the desire to denaturalize our fields of view and our critical tools, to pay attention to what is rendered visible or continues to be obscured, and to consider the complexity of the intersections between race, class, sex and gender. Finally, the need to produce an analysis of art that no longer serves to celebrate the past, but to open up interpretative potentialities in the present.

    Some of her publications include: Macronique, 2020, les choses qui n’existent pas existent quand même (things that do not exist, do actually exist), published by Cambourakis, collection Sorcière. This short, incisive and caustic text, written between October 2019 and March 2020, seeks to establish a record of police and sexual violence during Macron’s time, viewed through the prism of its treatment by the media, and the political speeches that deny this very violence; and Le Nœud de Prusik, 2021, a prospective institutional critique commissioned by Le CCN2 de Grenoble, Le Magasin des Horizons and Le Pacifique.

    Round table with Alexandre Dimos (Éditions B42), Paula Anacaona (Éditions Anacaona) and Rosanna Puyol (Éditions Brook), moderated by Léopold Lambert and Caroline Honorien (The Funambulist)

    While language shapes our imaginaries, translation allows them to grow as it has the vast potential to give rise to other cosmologies, ideas, or centralities… Publishing translations is also a crucial exercise that needs to be examined. Suggested and animated by The Funambulist, this round table would like to invite the publishers Anacaona, Brook, B42 and Paraguay to participate in a discussion in two parts. To start with, it will focus on the way translation, and hence the imaginaries it draws upon, can be a political act that gives rise to a pluriversal view of the world. And then, more prosaically, the discussion will look at issues related to the financial, logistical and editorial negotiations involved in translation, as they exist in these publishing houses’ practices.
